Give your fourth grader the confidence to succeed on the Georgia Milestones (GMAS) Grade 4 English Language Arts test.
This Smart Stars practice book provides five full-length, standards-aligned practice tests that mirror the length, item mix, and question types of the real Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade ELA assessment. Every passage and question was written and reviewed by experienced educators and built to Georgia’s own Grade 4 ELA standards and blueprint — so the reading levels, text types, and skills match what Georgia students see.
Take a look inside

The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) is given by the Georgia Department of Education to every public-school student in Grades 3-8.
- Delivery: the End-of-Grade ELA test is delivered online through DRC INSIGHT (paper available as an accommodation) near the end of the school year.
- Question types: at Grade 4 it blends single-answer multiple choice with multiple-select, two-part evidence-based questions, and technology-enhanced tasks, and includes no scored extended essay.
- Length: about 45 scored questions worth 60 points, with unscored field-test questions mixed in invisibly.
- Each practice test here: 45 questions built to the Grade 4 blueprint — for 225 across the book, to build true test-day endurance.
What’s inside
- Five full-length practice tests, with detailed Answers and Explanations after every test
- Original passages in every required genre — realistic fiction, informational articles, poetry, and paired research sources with an evidence table — written fresh, never reprinted from copyrighted work
- Coverage of both GMAS reporting categories, Interpreting Texts (reading, vocabulary) and Constructing Texts (writing, language), weighted like the real blueprint (about 57% reading, 43% writing and language)
- A Peer Revision Task on every test, the constructed-response format Georgia uses at Grade 4 to test revising and editing
- Practice in every GMAS item format rendered for paper: multiple choice, multiple select (“choose two”), two-part evidence questions, drag-and-sort and ordering, and short constructed responses
- Every explanation ties the answer to the exact words in the passage, then ends with a labeled Tip, Strategy, or Check — so students learn the skill, not just the letter
- A combined Quick Answer Key after each test, plus a family letter and test-taking tips up front
- Passages written in the Georgia Milestones stretch Lexile band (about 740-940L)

Why parents and teachers choose Smart Stars
- Educator-authored: Every passage and question is written and reviewed by classroom-experienced educators.
- Mirrors test day: Each practice test matches the official GMAS shape, item mix, and question formats.
- Built for Georgia: Aligned to Georgia’s own Grade 4 ELA standards and blueprint, with grade-appropriate contexts and a diverse cast of student names.
- Explanations teach the why: Every entry ties the answer back to the text, then closes with a labeled Tip, Strategy, or Check.
- Varied and graduated: Passages, contexts, and answer positions rotate test-to-test, and the five tests step up in difficulty — so no two feel like the same practice run.
