This policy explains how Smart Stars Prep collects and uses personal data when you visit smartstarsprep.com or purchase our products. We keep it in plain language because that is how privacy policies should be written.
1. Who we are (data controller)
The Site is operated by Eskey Kiadó és Médiaszolgáltató Kft. (Hungary), trading as Smart Stars Prep. For any privacy matter, contact support@smartstarsprep.com.
2. What we collect and why
- Purchase data (digital products). Checkout is operated by Paddle.com as merchant of record. Paddle collects your name, email, payment details, and billing country to process the sale, calculate tax, and issue your receipt. Paddle acts as an independent data controller for payment data under its own privacy policy. We receive from Paddle the information needed to deliver your product and provide support (your email address, the product purchased, and order reference) — never your full payment card details.
- Product delivery. We use your email address to send your download link and, where needed, replacement links or support responses. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- Support emails and contact form. If you email us or use the contact form, we keep the correspondence so we can help you and maintain a record of the request. Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing customer support.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically records standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and site operation. Legal basis: legitimate interest in running a secure website.
- Newsletter (if you opt in). If we offer email updates and you subscribe, we use your email to send them, and you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. Legal basis: consent.
We do not sell personal data. We do not run third-party advertising on this Site.
3. Cookies
The Site uses only cookies necessary for its operation and, if enabled, basic analytics to understand aggregate site usage. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
4. Children
Our products help children prepare for exams, but our customers are adults — parents, guardians, and educators. The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
5. Who we share data with
Only service providers necessary to run the business: Paddle (payments, as described above), our web hosting provider, and our email provider. Each processes data only as needed to provide their service. Some providers are located outside the European Economic Area (including the United States); where that is the case, transfers rely on recognized safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy framework.
6. Retention
Order-related records are kept as long as required for accounting and tax law (in Hungary, generally 8 years). Support correspondence is kept up to 2 years after resolution. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe.
7. Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Hungary: the NAIH, naih.hu). If you are a California resident, you have comparable rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and correct; we do not sell or share personal information as defined by that law. To exercise any right, email support@smartstarsprep.com — we respond within 30 days.
8. Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page with an updated effective date.
