Smart Stars Florida Statewide Science Assessment Grade 5 Science Flashcards: Four Decks, 140 Cards cover
Flashcard front: a test-style science question with a labeled drawing and four answer choices
A Like Test Day card: a test-style question with a figure, the way the real test asks it.

This book holds four flashcard decks: 140 cards written to the 25 benchmark groupings of Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for Science that the Grade 5 test covers, including the grade 3 and grade 4 benchmarks it also tests. Every card is a new item, not a reprint of the Smart Stars practice-test book. Read the front, answer in your head, then turn the page to flip it. (The real test is about 44 scored four-choice questions in one 160-minute session. Earth and Space Science and Physical Science each carry 29 percent, Life Science 25 and Nature of Science 17; the cards follow the same split: 42, 38, 36, and 24.)

Flashcard back: the correct answer, an explanation, a highlighted Tip, and the standard it tests
The back of that card: the answer, a worked explanation, a Tip, and the Florida standard it tests.

How to use this book

Work through one deck in order the first time; after that, jump to any deck from the table of contents. Answer before turning the page, then read the back even when you were right. Start with Like Test Day and save Trouble Spots for last; expect those to feel a little harder. Ten to fifteen cards a day over several weeks beats one long sitting.

A Trouble Spots card: the wrong choices are the mix-ups students actually make.

How the cards work

Read the front of a card, answer it in your head, then turn the page to flip it. The answer card shows the correct answer, a worked explanation, a Tip naming the mistake behind the wrong choices, and the exact Florida benchmark the card tests.

Color code. Each deck has its own color on every card, so you always know which deck you are in. The amber box is always a Tip.

Pair it with the practice tests

Work through full-length practice tests in the same test format, then use these cards to review what each test turns up.
