Built to feel like test day. Written to teach the why behind every answer.
This book gives your fourth grader five full-length practice tests for the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) Grade 4 Mathematics exam: 300 items in all, written and reviewed by educators and aligned line-for-line to the Colorado Academic Standards for Mathematics.
Every test in this book mirrors what your child will actually see on CMAS test day: the same four-unit structure with clear STOP markers between units, the same no-calculator rule across the entire test, no reference sheet (just like the real Grade 4 CMAS), and the same item formats students encounter on Pearson’s TestNav platform: multiple-choice, multi-select (“select TWO” or “select ALL”), fill-in-the-blank equation-builder items with one or more typed blanks, ordering and comparison items, and multi-part constructed-response items where students explain and critique reasoning.
About the question count: and why field-test items matter. On the official CMAS Grade 4 Math, roughly 32 items count toward your student’s score (worth about 50:51 points, because some constructed-response items earn 3, 4, or 6 points). The real test also includes embedded *field-test* items that the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) uses to develop future exams. Students never know which items count and which are field-test, so on test day every question must be worked with full focus and full energy. Each practice test in this book delivers the full operational scored load plus embedded unmarked field-test items: exactly mirroring the real on-screen experience: so your child builds the realistic *endurance* CMAS demands across four back-to-back units.

Why parents and teachers choose Smart Stars:
How to use this book. The CMAS Grade 4 Math is administered in four units, each about 55 minutes; take one full test at a time under realistic conditions in a quiet space. Make sure your student has a pencil, scratch paper, a ruler, and a protractor on hand. Do not use a calculator on any item: calculators are not allowed in any unit of Grade 4 CMAS Math. Pause at each STOP marker between units, then continue. Score with the quick-reference answer key, then read every explanation: even for questions answered correctly. Space the five tests over several weeks for the best results.
