Wisconsin's State Tests at a Glance

In grades 3 through 8, the Wisconsin Forward Exam covers English language arts and math every year, plus science and social studies in grades 4 and 8. The tests are given online each spring, and braille and printed versions are used only for students who need them. The Forward Exam is untimed: students may take more or less time, and the times below are the state's suggested times for scheduling. Schools may give the subjects, and the sessions within each subject, in any order that fits their schedule.

English Language Arts

Students use science and engineering practices and crosscutting concepts together with content knowledge. Engineering questions are built into the life, physical and earth and space science sets rather than given their own sets.
