About this book
Give your fourth grader the confidence to succeed on the Wyoming WY-TOPP Grade 4 Math test.
This Smart Stars practice book provides five full-length, standards-aligned practice tests that mirror the item mix and question types of the real WY-TOPP spring assessment in Mathematics. Every question was written by experienced educators, reviewed for accuracy, and built around the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards for Mathematics at Grade 4, so the topics and emphasis match what Wyoming students actually see.
Take a look inside
WY-TOPP — the Wyoming Test of Proficiency and Progress — is the test the Wyoming Department of Education gives to every public-school student in Grades 3-10.
- Delivery: delivered online, with the spring administration the one that counts toward grade-level results.
- Format: an untimed, computer-adaptive test, with paper forms available as an accommodation.
- Tools at Grade 4: no calculator and no reference sheet.
- Question types: single-answer multiple choice, multiple-select (“select the two”), type-in answers, and technology-enhanced questions.
- Each practice test here: because the real test is computer-adaptive, the number of questions varies from student to student, so each test here provides a steady 32 questions — 24 scored-style plus 8 field-test-style, 160 in all across the book — to build true test-day endurance.
What’s inside
- Five full-length practice tests, with detailed Answers and Explanations after every test
- Coverage of every Grade 4 math area on the Wyoming blueprint — Number and Operations in Base Ten, Number and Operations-Fractions, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, and Geometry — weighted toward the Fractions and Base Ten work that carries the most questions, just like the real blueprint
- Field-test-style questions blended invisibly into each test, just like the real WY-TOPP, and fully answered here so nothing on test day feels unfamiliar
- A combined Quick Answer Key after each test for fast self-grading
Topics covered
- Place value, and reading, writing, comparing, and rounding multi-digit whole numbers, including standard and expanded form and the value of a digit
- Multi-digit multiplication, including up to four-digit by one-digit and two-digit by two-digit, using area models
- Division with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, including remainders
- Multi-step word problems, including problems where a remainder must be interpreted, and using rounding and estimation to judge whether an answer is reasonable
- Equivalent fractions, and comparing and ordering fractions with unlike denominators using benchmarks and common denominators
- Adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators, including regrouping
- Comparing and ordering decimals
- Area and perimeter of rectangles, including finding an unknown side and composite (L-shaped) figures
- Classifying two-dimensional figures by their parallel and perpendicular sides and their angles, and identifying right, acute, and obtuse triangles
Why parents and teachers choose Smart Stars
- Educator-authored: Every question is written and reviewed by classroom-experienced educators.
- Mirrors test day: Each practice test matches the official WY-TOPP shape, item mix, question formats, and no-calculator, no-reference-sheet policy, with field-test questions blended in invisibly just like the real test.
- Explanations teach the why: Every Answers and Explanations entry shows the full worked solution, then a labeled closing Tip, Check, or Estimate (and a Strategy on multi-step problems) so students learn the reasoning.
