Give your fourth grader the confidence to succeed on the Nevada Smarter Balanced Grade 4 Mathematics test.
This Smart Stars practice book provides five full-length practice tests aligned to the Nevada Academic Content Standards for Mathematics, Grade 4. Each test mirrors the real Nevada test in length, structure, and item types: so test day feels familiar, not foreign.
Built to the real Nevada test length: 23 to 25 questions per test. Beginning in spring 2025, Nevada gives a shortened (“adjusted form”) version of the Smarter Balanced mathematics test. On the real test, a Grade 4 student answers a fixed computer-adaptive section of about 19 questions plus one multi-part Performance Task of 4 to 6 questions: roughly 23 to 25 questions in all. Two of the computer-adaptive questions are unscored field-test items the state is trying out, and students are never told which ones they are. Every practice test in this book is built to that exact length: Tests 1 and 4 have 23 questions, Tests 2 and 5 have 24, and Test 3 has 25, so your student practices at true test length, not a padded or shortened imitation.
The Nevada math test has two parts: a computer-adaptive section, where questions adjust to the student, and a Performance Task: one set of questions built around a single real-world situation, such as reading a table of data. Each test in this book includes both parts and draws from all three Smarter Balanced reporting categories: Concepts and Procedures; Problem Solving and Modeling & Data Analysis; and Communicating Reasoning.
No calculator, and no reference sheet on test day. Grade 4 students are not allowed a calculator on the Nevada math test, and the state provides no formula or reference sheet at Grade 4. This book follows the same rules. As a study aid only (never used during a practice test) we include a one-page Grade 4 Math Study Reference Sheet (multiplication facts, place value, fractions and decimals, area and perimeter, angles, and measurement conversions) to help students learn and review between tests.
What’s inside
- Five full-length practice tests at the real 23-to-25-question length, each with detailed Answers and Explanations after every test
- A computer-adaptive-style question section plus a Performance Task on every test, just like the live exam
- Coverage of all three Smarter Balanced reporting categories and every Grade 4 reporting topic
- Unscored field-test-style items built into every test, exactly as on the real exam, so students build true test-day endurance
- A Grade 4 Math Study Reference Sheet for learning and review between tests (a study aid only: not allowed on the real test)
- A combined Quick Answer Key at the back for fast self-grading
- A parent letter and test-taking tips section to set students up for success

Why parents and teachers choose Smart Stars
- Educator-authored. Every question is written and reviewed by classroom-experienced educators.
- Mirrors test day. Each practice test matches the official Nevada adjusted-form length, two-part structure, and policy.
- Explanations teach the why. Every entry walks through the reasoning step by step, with a labeled Strategy and a quick Tip, Check, or Estimate.
- Varied across five tests. Slot positions, contexts, names, and numbers rotate so no two tests feel the same.
- Field-test items built in. Each test mirrors the real Nevada field-test load for true endurance.
